Okay ladies and gents, I know its the summer, but I'm really looking forward to next year.
Cheryl and I attended the COCOs retreat, and while they made us do "trust falls" (Cheryl and I abstained) we did learn some useful things.
For one thing, Push is officially sharing their office with us, as well as PEA (Purchase Environmental Activists). So we should be getting a key and everything. Also, I believe they would like to make it an "Activist Resource Center" where people can come and hang out and we'll have books and things. So I'd like to see what we can do about getting our Feminist Library together. I have some books to happily donate. Also, we should get a coffee pot.
There is going to be a club fair during "welcome week", so if anyone would like to table with me, do it, because everyone loves tabling and recruiting impressionable young freshmen.
So how is everyone? Current Mood: feminist-y

This is Cross posted everywhere, sorry if you see it alot.
Okay, I need some help finding some very elusive information. I have been working on a paper for one of my Professors; a proposal essay about sexual education in public schools of California, and the United States. Its been going along at a decent clip, researching about the statistics here in California, the faults of the Bush Administration’s Abstinence Only Until Marriage campaign, and the effects on students coming out of these educational systems.
What I am having trouble locating is information about other countries. For the conclusion, my Professor would like me to profile three countries that use a comprehensive sexual education program, and compare their techniques and results with what I would propose for California’s public school system. If any one out there has this information (preferably from the last 4 years, and with legitimate sources) that would be amazingly helpful.
I will have my paper (in rough draft form) up at the following URL. www.cutecrowbar.com/education.html Advice and constructive criticism will be welcome.

Just wanted to let you know that Faith got back to me and we will have the Commuter Lounge to show the Wal*Mart film. The showing is this Thursday night. I'm not feeling very well and pending an anti-histamine I'm going to take, I may be semi-comatose by the time 7:30 rolls around.
I have the DVD and can leave it in the WHEN mailbox tomorrow.
|Thursday, November 17th, 2005|
Here is Faith's reply to my request for the commuter lounge.
PLEASE REPLY TO THIS to tell me if you still want to have it there!! If I don't get any replies by tomorrow night I am going to book it!
Here's the e-mail:
Sorry it took so long to respond to your email. The Commuter Lounge is the only place commuters have to leave their belongings, and/or relax in between and before their classes. Recently, there was an event held in the Commuter Lounge, but it came to the attention of Vinny and I that students were actually turned away or "kicked out" of the lounge. This is not okay. While we are open to having people use the lounge as they please, students need to be able to come and go as they please. Its cool if you use the TV to show your movie, but Commuters still need to come and go as they please. If this is not conducive to your event, please consider other "venues". Thanks!

Tonight's WHEN Meeting
Here's what happened at tonight's meeting:
~ Decided to try to book the commuter lounge for Thursday Dec. 1st at 9pm. If commuter lounge isn't available, will book Humanities Lecture Hall
~ Comfort and environment for discussion was key in deciding location.
~ Val will e-mail and call Carrie Neal/CSA to book room.
~ State of Women's Health in US Lecture
~Will schedule now for beginning of next semester.
~ We need to get people from Planned Parenthood to speak.
~ Film/TV Series
~ Lifetime Movie Nights
~ Can get Lifetime Movies off of NetFlix
~ Movies surrounding women's health issues
~ They are hokey, but are good converstaion starter and people love them.
~ Watermelon Woman
~ James said movie was boring as hell. Valerie agrees.
~ Cosby Show
~ James has on DVD
~ A film about female genital mutilitaion in South Africa. Made by Osumane Sembene, the most amazing femme film director ever. Says Valerie.
~ Herbal Abortion Seminar
~ Should be done in a normal meeting. Will be advertised to whole campus, though.
~ Allison will find out how to book people to come speak with us.
Ideas for General Meeting Format:
~ Meetings should be half programming events and then half information about women's health.
~ Topics for upcoming meetings:
~ Women's sexual pleasure
~ Safe sex in conjuction with sexual pleasure
~ Workshop to get guys to learn about clitoris and g-spot and mackin' it to the ladies.
~ Alternate forms of menstrual relief
~ Diva Cup, Instead Cup
~ The truth about tampons and pads
Next week's meeting we are planning on talking about alternate forms of menstrual relief. We are all going to do research and post our findings here. Allison knows a lot about this subject. James is going to make flyers for the meeting to get people to come to it.
One of the goals we discussed was about getting a good base of members and then getting them to bring their male friends to a few meetings to teach them stuff about women's issues (IE: sexual pleasure, rape agression stuff, etc).
Also, everyone is going to post their Spring 2006 schedules so we can get a general idea for planning the events for next semester. We know that things can change but just so we can get the ball rolling so we can hit the ground running next semester.
Reply with comments, ideas, and whatever! Current Mood: awake

okay ladies and gents.
I can't go to tonight's meeting either because I have to go to the same reading.
If we order the food from stop and shop, we have to have the order in by tonight. If we order it from A&P we have to do it tomorrow morning and they couldn't tell me the prices. (I looked online and it seems like stop and shop might be a tad cheaper, which is odd.)
I will get the odds and ends dollar store stuff tomorrow, Danyell you're going to have to give me a copy of the list we made. I don't know what happened to the paint and butcher paper we had last year, but I guess I'll get some (I have paint) and make a banner for the dining hall/mall tomorrow morning.
Mary is, unfortunately, in Arizona. I am an asshole and thought she was coming to tonight's meeting, and when I called her today...I found out she's in Arizona. I'm trying to contact someone else over at planned parenthood to see if we can get the stuff from them. Sadly, however, there was no fake boob to be found.
I don't know when this freakin' thing will be over, perhaps I will see some of you later tonight.
Hey, Just wanted to ask when is tonight's meeting? I'm most likely gonna come, (epcailly now that Iphigainia's over) and I think its at 7:30; but let me know if I'm right. Thanks. Current Mood: tired
