Wow...you guys used to be cool...
|Tuesday, August 8th, 2006|
Okay ladies and gents, I know its the summer, but I'm really looking forward to next year.
Cheryl and I attended the COCOs retreat, and while they made us do "trust falls" (Cheryl and I abstained) we did learn some useful things.
For one thing, Push is officially sharing their office with us, as well as PEA (Purchase Environmental Activists). So we should be getting a key and everything. Also, I believe they would like to make it an "Activist Resource Center" where people can come and hang out and we'll have books and things. So I'd like to see what we can do about getting our Feminist Library together. I have some books to happily donate. Also, we should get a coffee pot.
There is going to be a club fair during "welcome week", so if anyone would like to table with me, do it, because everyone loves tabling and recruiting impressionable young freshmen.
So how is everyone? Current Mood: feminist-y

No Meeting Tonight
So, Althea, Cheryl and I all kind of agree there's no real point in having a meeting tonight. We all have too much to do and nothing much to say. So, let's all stay home and write papers.
But Cheryl said she did want to get together one more before the semester's out to discuss for next year. I think that's a really good idea. I think, for instance, you should book Breast Fest and Box Rebellion within the first month of school so you don't get shut out like usual. I also suggest changing the charter and electing a president, or maybe changing around some of the other jobs as well. I think the job titles are all kind of misleading and stuff falls on some people to do when it isn't quite thier job. Also, if someone has the authority to make decisions, things can be planned faster, as opposed to having to ask 4 other people thier opinion on every single change that happens.

W.H.EN. Presents:The 3rd Annual Box Rebellion! Current Mood: excited
(Bring the kids)Saturday, April 29th, 8pmStudent CenterWith amazing musical performances by:Chantilly (Purchase's Own)Mantana (Amazing Jazz Saxophonist)Marla Hooch (Riot Grrl Quintet)Secret Life of Sofia (Rock Boys)Plus: FREE FOOD, RAFFLES, PRIZES and NOOKIE BAGS!All proceeds go to the Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Help heal women with the obstructed birth injury obstetric fistula. All donations at the door are extremely appreciated.
If you don't come, you hate women. You don't hate women...do you?
I think everyone should be at the Student Center no later than 6:30 tonight to set up. 6-7 easels have to be lugged over from the VA, the tables have to be rearranged and the bags, info, film (whereever we're going to show it), prizes, and so on have to be set up. I don't mind us getting there mad early, finishing quickly and milling around for an extra 20 minutes. But I definately DON'T want us all getting there 40 minutes before hand and scrambling to get everything done.
Ali, am I getting Matana from the train or are you?

If WHEN doesn't have a meeting by next week, I'm resigning as secretary.
Yeah, seriously. I've thought about it a lot. It's probably more productive than being involved in a club that isn't meeting- which, as far as I'm concerned, is a nonexistant club. So, even if it's just me, Althea and Cheryl in my living room, we need to do something now
. This shit is getting ridiculous. I thought we all agreed Tuesday was good? Well, Tuesday will be over in 2 hours and I'm pretty sure I tried to organize a meeting a few days ago. I'm reposting this in the lj, just to make sure it's not just that everyone's e-mail is broken. So, can we get it together within 7 days? I think that's more than adequate.

This is Cross posted everywhere, sorry if you see it alot.
Okay, I need some help finding some very elusive information. I have been working on a paper for one of my Professors; a proposal essay about sexual education in public schools of California, and the United States. Its been going along at a decent clip, researching about the statistics here in California, the faults of the Bush Administration’s Abstinence Only Until Marriage campaign, and the effects on students coming out of these educational systems.
What I am having trouble locating is information about other countries. For the conclusion, my Professor would like me to profile three countries that use a comprehensive sexual education program, and compare their techniques and results with what I would propose for California’s public school system. If any one out there has this information (preferably from the last 4 years, and with legitimate sources) that would be amazingly helpful.
I will have my paper (in rough draft form) up at the following URL. www.cutecrowbar.com/education.html Advice and constructive criticism will be welcome.

So, I've already asked two bands about Box Rebellion. One expressed not-completely-decided interest, one has yet to reply (I sent them a follow up e-mail).
Anyway, has anyone else talked to anyone, or have acts they'd like me to talk with about it? BTW, it's April 14th, just so everyone knows. I recently found a bunch of all-female bands located in the westchester/NYC/LI area that seem rather promising, so if no one else has any preferences (outside of Con Amore) I'd have no problem asking them. Also, do we want to ask the Vibration again? They've done it two years in a row- three's a charm.
Goin back to school tomorrow. La la la. Do we wanna meet on next Monday?
Lemme know what you all think.

So, Jesse Heffler says this:
"Right now, all of April is open except for Culture Shock weekend, which is on 4/22 and 4/23. Take a look at your calendar and let me know when you want to book this event.
I was thinking we could have it Friday the 7th, which is the first Friday in April. Is that too early for anyone? Btw, Chantilly already asked if she could play this show, which I think is great. I'd still (personally) rather have a higher bands to solo acts ratio (simply because bands bring in more people), but I think if she volunteered without us even asking, we should have her play.
